My Weepie Weekend
Sorry for going all missing on you all this weekend!
My grandparents are in the process of moving to an apartment/condo complex village (complicated?) for elderly people and my mother and I set off to Boston to help them pack. This explains the first part of weep. It’s really moving to see them packing up the antique house that they’ve lived in for so long. my grandfather has lived on the same block his whole life- imagine moving after so long!
I also was lucky enough to see The Weepies in concert in Boston on thursday night. If you haven’t heard The Weepies (or Steve Tannen or Deb Talan) then high tale it over to youtube and type them in because they’re phenomenal! I swear they could have been playing a CD it was so spot on. Excellent live. The Weepies are a wonderful husband and wife duo who play creative folk-y music with wonderful acoustics and beats. Thanks to my Mother for driving to the concert <3
A couple weeks ago we bought some Arctic Zero for me to try. I got the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavour, for some odd reason. I don’t really love anything chocolate except as a bar
Call me a chocolate purist.
So I don’t know why I chose this flavor. I should have gotten the maple or something. That aside, I decided to try it the other day because it was just so hot!!
I first opened the container and was struck by the freezer burn this baby had already gotten in having been in the freezer for so short a time. This stuff is supposed to be great- and you can eat the entire pint!! With the added benefit of being high in protein and low in fat and calories, this should be a godsend for anyone who ever wished they could just finish the whole darn thing.
Only it wasn’t and surprisingly, I found myself wanting to give up and throw the whole thing away after a few bites. I kept on, hoping it would get better (You know how that goes) and gave up after awhile, pledging to stick it back in the freezer and save it to make into a shake. I think it would be better this way.
Let’s just say that the texture is not at all like ice cream or froyo, but rather more like sorbet- flakey and icy. More suited to be blended perhaps. I am sure I’d have liked it better in another flavor but we shall see whether I’m up to spending $5.25 on another pinto of the stuff. Perhaps if I’m needing to spend my American money before going abroad? haha. That said, I’d buy it again to try some different things with it, although not in a chocolate flavour.
What are your thoughts on Arctic Zero?
I’ve been loving my mexican multi layer dip. Where have beans been all my life??
and I know you all love your hugh jass salads. Well, I do too!!
Anyone else love spaghetti squash? Since I’m in eat-up-everything-before-I-go-abroad mode, I decided to try the stringy squash for breakfast!

1/2 Spaghetti squash, the last of a bag of Kashi Autumn Wheat cereal, maple syrup, cinnamon and greek yogurt
I can’t get enough of that blue cup either. Isn’t it wonderful in the morning light? Turns out that spaghetti squash tastes divine as a sweet breakfast treat! Try it and let me know what you think
Because I was so bored (or peckish?) I decided to try my hand at making homemade Soynut Butter! I had this package of roasted soynuts that I’d gotten at Marshalls sometime or another.
I stuck them into my puny little food processor and blended away.
and voila!
So it didn’t stick together at all. hm. I added the rest of the cashew butter and almond butter from the fridge for a multi-nut butter.
I think this came out much better.
Mixed nut butter it is then!
We set off to Boston for the Weepies concert. My grandparents have the most sparse fridge ever. I roll with the punches, of course and always manage to find things (and bring my own) Do you travel with your own food staples? I found a delish breakfast.

some ricecakes (use it up!), trader joe O's, cinnamon cloud, plain yogurt, trader joes flax flakes (YUM), blueberries, banana slices and almond butter
Sponsored by TJs? Probably. The second TJs comes over to upstate NY, I’m ON IT!
Full nourished, we set out to cleaning. We sorted, filed and boxed and labeled. It was a bit like being in an antique store!
and then, amidst it all, I lay eyes on the only one for me:
The 1986 food processor.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, I’ve been looking for one of these (however old…) I sat on the floor and went through the manual right then and there. It’s mine!!
We broke for lunch. I made a hugh jass salad ( like I do)

salad, carrots, roasted portobello mushroom, TJs triple layer hummus (LOVE), spaghetti sauce, mustard, yogurt dressing
I’m in love.
made another salad for everyone for dinner.
The next morning I decided to try out my new toy.
Grammie was going to get rid of these nuts- she said they were rancid!! I had quite a few and pronounced them fine. A find companion for my food processor, that is!
This looks fine, but it turned out all wrong. Twice this week I’ve tried to make homemade nut butter and have just failed. What am I doing wrong? This one wouldn’t really stick together either and then I blended it a bit more and it just drippedoil. Disgusting and unnatural.
I was so confused….I put it in a jar because then it got all sticky and unspreadable. This stuff is destined to be homemade Larabar bites, I think. Perhaps I’ll do a giveaway? Yay or Nay?
Fully frustrated, I went to get more frustrated by attempting to fold shipping boxes.

Fold A around B and then cut a five point star through side D. Then make sure to stick H to K with adhesive before looping side Z around Q, l, and O.....WHAT?
We had a whole bunch of my favourite childhood books to take home- My grandmother is a librarian.
I’m going to miss these stairs.
The next day, mom and I went into Brookline to get Naked Pizza. I’d seen it driving back from The Weepies and nearly caused my mom a car accident by shouting “OMG Mom there it is!!” and jumping out of my seat.
They say:
“Naked means natural. Our pizza is simply an honest diversity of all-natural, whole food ingredients that taste better and are better for you. “
I’d called on our way to have them make us a pizza, original crust, with all the veg toppings and cheese.
It was everything I’ve been wanting in my pizza challenge and more.
Whole wheaty crust, and covered with veggies. I’m not a huge cheese on pizza fan, but I didn’t feel like asking for it without it (plus, it is added calcium and protein!) so I just let it be. Honestly, I didn’t even notice it.
Obviously.
Verdict? Naked Pizza gets an A+ from me!! I’d surely go there again and I hope this healthy pizza chain spreads all over (and near to me!!)
Another favourite was demolished over this weekend.
It went into a sauce with vanilla yogurt and plain yogurt to go over my summer squash at lunch.
On the way back I think I was having some sort of PMS attack or energy lack (yackity yack!) and I just needed something.
Mom told me not to fall asleep on the way back so I offered my Starbucks card and we stopped to get coffee before we got on the Masspike. I’m not the hugest coffee fan, you’ll know, I prefer tea, but this called for some serious caffeine action.
and I mean serious.
Is that a trenta sized ice coffee I spy? Seasoned with stevia and soy milk.
For the record, I only consumed 1/5 of this on the drive home before banishing it to the fridge to languish overnight. Too much of the natural stimulant for me. and We also don’t have a bathroom in our car. Just saying.
More in depth tomorrow about feelings and such. My head aches now and my book is calling. I’m a bit stifled with thoughts at the moment, and it’s afternoon and I’m hungry for a snackie. I sense a bit of cheese on wasa cracker action happening.
Excuse me, please.
Love, Hannah

girlll all your foods look amazing. Congrats on the pizza challenge I wish we had one of those near us!! It looks SO amazing. And I’ve had PLENTY of fails with nut butters. I’ve just given up and stuck to my barney’s butter. It’s just something I cannot for the life of me figure out… Maybe one day I’ll get lucky!
I’ve got to try that stuff!!
Congrats on the pizza, major props!! But I just don’t see how arctic zero, super low calorie “ice cream” is helping with your recovery, it seems as tough it is just fueling the disorder, or lack of a better word If you want ice cream, eat real delish stuff. If you like arctic zero for the protein, get yourself some protein in another for, even powder, and make a shake or something and have REAL ice cream too, please! Maybe add a little oil to the nut butters, just a touch could really make it more creamy and blended better. I love the weepies too, that is amazing that you got to see them! I hope you start to shape up, tell those nasty ED thoughts to go away and just live your life free from them, I am sure your time abroad will be much better without that disorder tagging along. Think about your future, looking back on your life 30 years from now, will it make a difference if you are ten pounds heavier or lighter, no… but if you keep restricting THOSE bad thoughts will be memories and no one wants that girl!
I thought about that but honestly I wanted to try it. It wasn’t as awesome as I’d thought but I didn’t figure there was harm in trying it. Oil for the nut butters? Do you suggest canola? Do you taste it when you blend it in? I’ll try that for sure!
At least you have the sense of mind to recognize your some what disordered thoughts tho, keep on going and one day you, hopefully soon, they will be much less and you will just enjoy some premium ice cream (or whatever) just because, without a second though. Calories are man made anyway, and whos to say they matter at all, eh?
yeah canola would prob work, don’t worry you do not need much at all… just add a few drops at a time until it reaches a smoother consistency. I think it may just have to do with the nuts being dry (TWSS, sorry!). And the reason for oil may work is it acts as the normals oil that the nuts produce anyhow, that gives it that lush creamy texture. Also maybe soaking your nuts (again TWSS!)
All your eats look great! That’s so great that you did the pizza challenge and enjoyed it! That’s too bad that your homemade nutbutter hasn’t been working out! I haven’t tried making my own nut butter! As for arctic zero, i haven’t tried it because it’s not in Canada. But I must admit I really really want to try it and eat the whole pint. That’s too bad you didn’t like it much! Coffee makes me have to go to the bathroom too. I have to be careful if I have too much before going out on a long run!
You so got a bad pint of Arctic zero, that stuff is good and doesn’t look like that. I got a pint once that looked like that and turns out my local Whole Foods freezer had gone down a few days before -killing everything in the freezer. I would totally try it again, chances are you’ll get a good pint and you’ll love it.
yeah. Like I said, I plan on trying another flavor that isn’t chocolate next time.
Wow the naked pizza looks…very un-naked haha but totally delish! I hate to tell you that such amazing products unfortunately don’t exist in the uk
. Aw wow that concert sounds great, i love folky style music, especially when it’s live, you are a lucky girl! All your food looks so damn amazing I’m so jealous hehe. Never heard of arctic zero…but it looks like poop. Stick with the real deal, no need to eat the whole pint…but sometimes it just has to be done ;p. When are you moving? Hope you enjoyed the weekend!
I know but they’re in Dubai too so someday perhaps in London!! You should look up the Weepies, I bet you’d like them!! I’m going to London on September 24th!! Soon enough!
I got really, really excited when first seeing Arctic Zero in our grocery store but was disappointed myself, too. It really doesn’t have any flavor what so ever. Oh well, guess that’s what we get for trying light ice cream!
right? We’re so much better off with frozen yogurt!! Tastes 100% better.
Amazing eats, amazing food processor find, and amazing balls of nut butter! Your posts always make me smile so much
And high five on conquering the pizza my friend, it looks DEEEvine!
I’ve never tried Arctic Zero, but the way you described the texture, I’m not sure I would like it. Oh well, just means more nut butters! I ALWAYS have to travel with my fave food staples, I don’t think I could survive without some snackage on the road haha
So glad you had an awesome weekend!
Oh man, I wanna try Naked pizza! I never get cheese on my pizza anymore and I like it better that way. Just pile on the veggies and I’m good
That Starbucks drink is huge! I can never get anything larger than a tall there because I’m so sensitive to caffeine and I end up feeling sick. Ick.
hence why I drank 1/5 of it and called it a day. haha.
EVERY THING in this post is making me DROOL! I kid you not I drove past a Naked Pizza today (in Arizona) and wondered what that was. I now want to try it BAD! P.S. I have missed you this summer and totally didn’t even know you were back!! I am terrible.
It’s alright- I only got back about a week ago so now I’m in full-ish swing until I go to London at the end of this month!
I have always been curious about the “ice cream” but I doubt I would like it either! Usually if it sounds too good to be true…it probably is. darn!
I loooove that TJ’s hummus! I’m so sad because I don’t have one in city. Glad you get to enjoy it though, it’s amazing.
It really was too good to be true. I was a bit sad, but then again who would expect to be able to eat the whole thing anyhow?
We don’t have TJs around here either so whenever I’m in Mass visiting relatives or going to college (hah) then I grab it up!! I won’t have any of those options this year while I’m abroad though- I’ll have to find a new kind!
Ahhhhh, your eats look amazing! And congrats on the pizza girlie, you rock =]
I have never thought of using spaghetti squash in a sweet dish. It will take some convincing to get me to eat it but I have to try it.
Now you have me inspired to try to make my own nut butter when I get a food processor
It is really good. Since Spaghetti Squash has such a light taste anyways, it lends itself very well to being lightly sweetened- much like zucchnini in sweet breads and pumpkin and such
nut butter tips: don’t add water, add a bit of oil and make sure to blend it past the point of crumble; I stopped too soon. Have patience!
what a busy week! And you still managed to have some delish food in with it! I love the homemade nut butter! Even though it wasn’t very buttery, it still looks great!
And congrats on the Pizza chalenge! It sounds like an awesome place!
I want those nachos and that pizza right now!
nachos?
I don’t think you can use freeze dried soy nuts to make soy nut butter. Try to find the regular kind and you’ll probably be better off!
I like arctic zero. The trick is to blend it with something creamy – I like to blend it with yogurt or cottage cheese. That way you get the flavor and icyness from the arctic zero, but the creaminess from the yogurt/cottage cheese! I did it with cream top yogurt once and it was AMAZING!
Were those freeze dried? I didn’t even look, haha. I think they might have just lookedlike that in the package? hmm well whatever, I’ll try again when I get back from London (such a long time awayyy)
ahh so you blend Arctic Zero with something creamy? I thought I would try it again, I wasn’t wiilling to believe it was all that bad. As I said, I think it was the chocolate flavour. Perhaps I’ll mix it with greek yogurt tomorrow for a snack or something. Thanks for the tip!
No you didn’t try Artic Zero!! I am so jealous girl… even though it turned out to be kind of gross, you know how much I want to try this too! Every time I enter a new WF, I beeline it to the freezer section just in case it is there. Alas, it never is
I hope you get the opportunity to try a different kind or one that is more fresh, I am sure it will taste better!
Anddddd CONGRATULATIONS on the pizza challenge!! Seriously, you could not have picked a better place to do it from, so sooo proud of you Hannah!
So are you going to be back in Amherst/Noho area before you leave for London?
what are you reading my mind? I JUST commented on your blog haha. I do the same thing too with the WF but I literally had to search it out in this tiny little store. *sigh*
YES I am back perhaps this weekend to do some stuff. Let’s hang!!
Baha my food processor is ancient too! I still use it like mad though, cause I am wayy to cheap to replace it
All that food looks incredible, especially the salad!
I fail at nut butter all the time too. I think I lack the patience for it to do it’s think and become smooth. One day…please?
I really need to just let it do its thing and go read or something. Only problem is that I’m afraid the top will fly off!
I’ve been planning to make my own nut butter too, so I appreciate the tips. I’m thinking cashew.
I tried that, and I wish I’d had the patience to wait until it became a butter. Perhaps next time I’m in the states with a food processor, haha
My my, so much fabulous food!! I’ve never thought of having squash for breakfast but your bowl looks so great and perfect for Autumn!
The Naked pizzas sound awesome too!
I wish we had TJ in the UK and more WFs too. We can live in hope, right!!??
Someday. Whole Foods is luckily where I am going to be in London (more than 1!!) so I’ll just hop on the tube. I do wish there was some sort of huge natural foods store for all you UK people out there.
Wow, this post covers a lot–you must be busy! That ancient food processor looks awesome. Also, I am so jealous you got to see The Weepies! So. jealous.
I’ve been trying to get them to come to Northampton for so long. Last time I emailed their rep guy said they weren’t doing tours. Perhaps next year if I start working on it now?
That pizza looks amazing – I want some now!
I hate it when you buy something that costs a lot a then it’s really disappointing. You want to finish it and get your money’s worth, but you don’t enjoy it!
