I’ve decided to do my WIAW- which is actually WIAT- tonight so I can get some stuff done tomorrow. I’m also prepping for being in England? Not that way but we did buy two huuuuge duffle bags today at Macys to schlep my life overseas in!! Guess what color? Green, yup.
Oh. and I have a public service announcement:
My ten-year-old brother, E, decided to make a trap for the ants in our kitchen. This one didn’t work, but sugar+flour+borax seems to have done the trick. Did you find something that worked yet Chelsey?

This time, just made with skim milk.
Homemade yogurt is a bit watery. I don’t know if this is because I’m not doing it right, not letting it yog long enough or what. It tastes great though.
I went to unplug the yogurt maker and unplugged the fridge instead. Colleen, you asked in your latest post what our most recent “oh shoot” incident was and I said I’d forgotten. Well this was a pretty “oh shoot” moment!
Continuing on my yogurt trend, I made yogurt cheese.

Breakfast this morning was fresh and fruity!
Since it was challenge tuesday, I challenged myself to a bowl of cereal for breakfast since I’ve got to learn to do that this summer at camp. It was my new favorite, Kashi GoLean, with a large glug of almond milk and an apricot and a plum.

Halfway through that breakfast mom asked if I wanted to go out for lunch. My first response was “OMG Mom how could you not have told me so I could have had (insert low calorie item here) for breakfast instead of this challenging bowl of carbs!” But then I was like, wait….I kinda just want to go out. It is challenge tuesday, after all. So I made up my mind to live it up!! No weight gain will occur, I assure you (me).
Mom and I set off to have my hair cut. Yes, I am aware of the fact that at 20.5 I still do not drive. Luckily, I love my mother’s company and she’s a safer driver than I can ever hope to be.
After some snip snip was done to my shaggy mane, we drove to the local mega-mall. Okay, it’s not that big, but it’s the biggest I’ve ever seen. We were looking for a food processor since she wanted to make (read: had to make because I opened them up) clam chowder after I opened up clams thinking they were tuna cans. *oops* Our food processor I’ve complained about before; it’s small and useless (sorry, it feels bad now) so we’re looking to replace it so we could actually process the potatoes in bits larger than 2×2.
Fail. You’d think Macy’s would have the one we wanted? hm….we did find amazing
bodybags duffelbags for me to take to London though. Pictures as soon as I remember they’re still in the trunk….
Dad works near this mall because it’s in the capital, so we called him and he met us for lunch. Being challenge tuesday, I decided to conquer an item on my challenge list:
After walking around the mall a bit, we tucked in at a place I’ve been wanting to try for a while; Fresh Healthy Cafe.
Sounds good, right? There was a minute when we might have gone to the salad bar at another restaurant we usually do when we’re there but I’m glad my mom pressed on the sandwich, just like I’d planned. Besides, why can’t I have a sandwich? It’s just delicious! My parents were the most supportive people ever. It was surely not a repeat of last week’s failed challenge.
My mom helped me order and let me order whatever. She picked out some chips for us all to share (except for Dad- he’s allergic to potatoes, tomatoes and corn).
I got a salad with my sandwich, of course. It was the veggie extravaganza salad which was a meal sized salad. Someone please tell me how this could be a meal though?
I love salad and did insist on eating this entire thing all my by self, as the young ones often say.
Mom and I split the sandwich which was a Tuna melt on Focaccia with Cheddar. I love tuna so much and love the idea of melty cheese + tuna as much as I fear it. I also used to love focaccia bread so this was a go. I was actually going to ask for Ciabatta but when I did, the lady said they didn’t have any. I adjusted more quickly than usual, which is a plus. Focaccia it was!
We got to the table and I began bemoaning this and that; my dad took the tomatoes out of his sandwich that he’d asked for not to be there and I didn’t like the shredded cheese. That’s when mom tuned in, “just enjoy it! It’s a delicious sandwich and I think it’s really good!” So I did. Once I stopped being nit-picky and allowed myself to enjoy the sandwich, I really did like it a lot more!

or well enough. Mom looks happy though!
We also got the Vegan Carrot Ginger soupwhich actually had huge slices of carrot in it! We were impressed!
and that little pink cup is a sample of a smoothie the guy gave us for free. I had it but it was too sweet!
Oh. And because I TOTALLY believe in bloggers taking pictures of themselves with their food:
I think I enjoyed it. Really, I just liked the tunafish. haha.
We ate up but didn’t feel like we had to finish everything. Because you shouldn’t have to feel that, really.
I got home to a package!
It was my long awaited blog swap package from Megan!
She got me shoes! Oh Megan, how did you know I love Keds???
Just kidding friends, she got me food, duh!
One great chapstick for camp, a cute bowl, 1 bora bora bar (which I’ve never heard of!), a lara bar (cookie dough mmmm), and a sample of DCD now that I can eat nuts (most excited for this, admittedly)
Snap Crisps (I’m told my brother lived off these when we first brought him home from Taiwan but oddly enough I never tried them?) and some delicious dehydrated fruit! The kind that melts in your mouth.
If you know me, you know that I eat everything with nut butter. So I had to try those snap crisps with it right? A bit of snack-age ensued.
Then I read some of your blogs. But not too many (read: not enough) because mom had me finish cleaning up my scrapbooking/collage-making project that is currently the exhibition in our living room.
Dinner for them was Clam Chowder. I guess she managed to puree the potatoes with a smoosher? Don’t ask me, I was cleaning.
Since I don’t do the whole clam thing, I decided I wanted a salad beast.
I went with white carrots, salad, the rest of a jar of salsa, mustard,, and a big blob of my favorite hummus as well as some onions sauteed in EVOO my mom had made. Anyone else really love caramelized onions?
All in all, I’d consider today a success. Hannah: 1 ED: 0
So basically, this is all about what I would eat on my last wednesday.

Really, there is just so much, I can’t even decide. These were just pictures I came across and thought looked good. I guess I don’t really want it to be the last wednesday ever cause I’d freak out for not being able to choose!
Here’s what I really ate:
Kabocha Squas with maple syrup and cinnamon. With a soymilk/greek yogurt/peanut flour dipping sauce.
Kabocha squash is so dense and buttery. I do declare I like it the best!!
Pesto grain crackers, roasted veggies, celery, salsa and hummus. I love hummus lately, the number of jars in my fridge threatens to outnumber my nut butters…..only not really😉
Around 230 I snacked on some ants on mini logs and some unpictured Baked Salt and Pepper Kettle Chips
We went to my G’s district field day where she won 2nd place in the 4th grade hurdles!!
It was hot when I got home and I wasn’t hungry (weird!) so I just whipped myself up this sucker with 2 cups of soymilk, some ice cubes and a couple handfuls of blackberries
This is probably the worst picture I’ve ever taken. I didn’t even bother to retake it without flash. I hope for your sake (and mine) that you never have to see such shoddy photography skills again.

I’ve been having sort of a mehhhh couple of days body image wise. Not like full on terrible, just sort of uncertain. I’m hoping I can bring myself out of a funk, so we shall see…
off to clean like a vacuum machine!
So. Opperation: Cinnamon Bun was a huge F.A.I.L.
so I’ll be honest with you.
Basically, I ended up coming home and making a huge nummy mess for myself which ended up tasting better, IMO. Well, who knows since I didn’t get it butttt
I was going to make myself waffles out of this amazingly colorful item but I added too many and had to scrap the batter. <– this went against my “don’t waste things” rule and I freaked out a little. Nothing that would phase me though, I’m made of steel today!
I decided to do project “use up what I have in the kitchen” and promptly cut up a plum, an apricot, a banana and a handful of blueberries to put into a yogurt mess. I topped this with 1 cup Maple yogurt and 1/2 a block of tofu (I’m loving on tofu lately- so much protein!) I whizzed that up in the blender with a rather large gloop of soy milk.
I took out roughly 1/4 cup peanut flour, 2 tsp almond butter, 2 tbsp greek yogurt and 1.5 tbsp maple syrupand mixed it together to make a sauce.

but this wasn’t good enough. so I added 1/2 a banana.
but this wasn’t good enough either. So I added Barbara’s Puffins, Barbara’s Oatmeal Squares, Kashi GoLean, Nature’s Path Flax Plus cereal and total flakes.
then I mixed it up.
This was even a bit scary because it was
a. tons of protein
c. I added more fat in there than I would have usually with the almond butter. But I was feeling brave and boy was I glad for that sauce. YUM
d. maple syrup which is usually an “unnecessary”
So maybe I didn’t do my cinnamon bun challenge. But I did come home and have something that I loved. Check my challenges tab soon for an updated list. Any ideas?

a Strawberry Parfait!
-1/2 cup oat bran
-1 tbsp chia seeds
-1 cup strawberries
-1/2 cup greek yogurt
layered it up in a cup!
made some sweet Edamame dip!
and I had some down right delicious mushies:
AND I tried my first marshmallow in 6 years!! This thing. I’m telling you!
and I roasted away!! I like my marshies burnt. How do you like yours? Have you tried the vegan ones? They’re pretty darn tasty!
and I grew my relationship with this food:
Tofu: it’s what’s for breakfast….at least it was the last couple days!
and of course, everything is better when it’s topped with some sort of nut butter.

That’s all I got guys. Gearing up for a hot and humid week. Not my cuppa tea, but that’s alright, neither are giant cinnamon rolls apparently.

OH MY LORD
Can you tell I’m nervous about this? We have a free coupon and people like Jenny and Alexis have been doing really commendable challenges lately that I think both of those could be signs. It is time to conquer my fears and go for it. Besides, what normal person would pass up a natural, organic, local, cinnamon bun?
Here are some things before I go.
1. This is NOT going to make me fat. Seriously? Something so delicious? Once? No way.
2. It is allowed to be scary, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to do it.
3. I completely deserve this. Who ever said I wasn’t allowed to eat a pastry?
4. Even though it says “Free Hot Cinnamon Bun, iced Americano, Whipped Chocolate and Chocolate Chip Cookie” on the coupon, I will NOT choose the calorie-less coffee, just because it is safe and I’m scared. I will choose the cinnamon bun because this is a challenge.
5. If they don’t have cinnamon buns for some reason, I can pick something else from their menu. They’re got yummy english muffins and stuff so that should be good.
Well, I’m off; gettin’ hungry!!

and I decided for some random reason to make Pecan Butter while my mom was taking a nap. Well, it was near the end, she’d slept for long enough😉
Pretty sure I just decided to make it because I saw those ^ in the fridge. It’s not like I needed any more nut butters or anything…
This thing holds about 1/4 cup nuts. no joke.
-1/3 cup pecans
-1 tbsp cocoa powder
Yes, you might think I’m strange for adding prunes but a. we had some and b. I didn’t want to use up my dates or figs. Tastes SO GOOD!
It’s got a bit of crunch, which is fab.
and a wonderfully light chocolate flavor.
and that naturally velvety texture we know and love pecans to provide. Darn them, they’re just so seductive!!
I made myself up a nice OIAJ last night but today is CHILLAY so I scooped it out and heated it up. I also took this liberty to add some rhubarb compote, greek yogurt, choco-pecan butter (show you soon!) and strawberries.
and some Barbara’s Oat Squares, of course. These things are addictive!! Have you ever stuffed one with nut butter, because you SHOULD.
I’ve done massive amounts of cleaning lately. As I move into my junior year of college (coughwhat?), I’m preparing to move more and more permanently out of my house. Sad though it may be, it is also most exciting. So I’ve been going through everything really thinking about what I do and do not need to keep. It’s keeping me from being a poltroon as well. Give it away and throw it out!
Mom and I brought all the clothes I didn’t want anymore to Plato’s Closet. Have you guys heard of this? They pay you cash on the spot for stylish clothing you donate (not saying I’m stylish at all…) I’m wondering where they got the name from…
I brought over a huge tub + a plastic bag and they only took $17.95 worth. I’m thinking they didn’t want to pay me for all of it, haha. I don’t blame them, we’ll try their other store. I got some pretty cute shirts there though.

Mom and I then popped over to Marshals where I got two cute new bathing suits and a pair of shorts to wear over them. If you’re new to the blog, I’m a camp counselor this summer and I need something….camp counselor-ish, for lack of a better phrase.
Surprisingly, I tried on about 10 bathing suits in less than 10 minutes without having bad body image. SCORE. I didn’t really look in the mirror, because I knew I wouldn’t like what I saw. Let’s be real folks, when were dressing room mirrors good for anything but making you look ghostly white and showing alllll the pores in your face? Yeah. So I just concentrated on how the suits felt. Suited me fine. ha….ha….sorry.
and two cute belts; one is a waist belt that actually fits, and the other goes with my vintage dresses. Gotta whip those out before camp begins. Did I mention we wear the same “Camp Staff” t-shirt every day? (we get 7).
Well, it sure makes packing easy.
Marshals is my favorite. Although they sometimes have some frippery, most times they’ve got really great stuff. Remember how my sister broke my beloved Pufferfish cup? Well I found another one. Not a Pufferfish, but it is my favorite animal….any guesses?

I had some tea after dinner in it. I’m quite pleased with my purchase.
Mom and I were going to stop for Froyo but the flavors were Root Beer and Coffee. I was having a massive allergy attack and not really feeling either of the flavors so….
When I got home, I made myself what is probably the ugliest green monster to date. I drank 1/2 of it and then decided to photograph it for you. You probably could have done without, I know, I know.
This was a heinous color, but it tasted mighty fine. I paired it with TJ’s Raisin Rosemary Crisps
and some Choco-Pecan Butter, naturally.
Now I just need a jacket, some towels, bug spray sans DEET…..hm

I’ve never tried any of these before. I was esp excited about the Larabar because I’d never ever had them and you all seem to love’em.
I tried these Quornthings one night when my family was having chicken and I wanted to match them? I used to eat these alot pre ED so it was great to try them again. Still taste mighty fine although I’m not as much a fan of the fake meat stuff as I once was.
We left the store by accident with this:

Last night we had fish!! This is my second time eating fish so it was a little scary. But my my did it taste good!

Wow guys, you were right, these ARE good!! I tried the Chocolate Chip Brownie flavor. At the time, I didn’t even notice that it was brownie too and made the comment to myself that it tasted just like a brownie. Now I see why….duhhh
When I got back my hair was a frizzball. Good thing I’d gone at 5:30; it hot humid and started thundering soon after that.
I decided to make Carrie’s Voluminous Oat Bran for breakfast. That took care of my oat bran though.
I decided to add some chia seeds but added too much water.

Hi, Hi and Hello gals and girls!
Today has been quite a success. Meaning I’ve gotten a lot done, but I bet you surmised that much.
I made some Chocolate Mint ice cream for the kids.
and Newman’s Own Organics sent me some chocolate bars to review. Gosh, NOO, how generous. I got Espresso Dark, Mocha Milk, Milk, Super Dark, Dark and Orange Dark.
I’ll admit to not being much of a Milk Chocolate fan, but I actually found the NOO milk chocolate to be not too bad, especially the mocha one. Because let’s face it, don’t chocolate and coffee go well together? All in all, I’m a huge fan!
The favorite was the Very Dark flavor. Typical Hannah; honestly what beats dark chocolate? Not much.
All in all: I’ll represent Newman’s Own Organics any day. New favourite chocolate!

I really appreciated all the great feedback you guys gave me about my recent NON nut allergy!! (except those Hazelnuts and milk Pistachios) I’ve been trying new nut butters, which has been fun!! I’d been a bit premature and began to accrue quite the nut butter collection before I’d even been tested and even made my mom save me this huge PB jar for OIAJ in case I could eat it.
Let’s just say that this kind is SO much better than the Smart Balance kind. (read: it actually tastes like food and you can see that it is made out of food too!)
I used my trusty crock pot to make some oat bran.
Letsbereal here. I think I’m seriously in love with my crockpot. I could nestle up in it’s warmth any day. Except for the 89° days that are coming next week. Then I’ll be in the freezer, thanks.
Into the mix:
1/3 cup oat bran
1 tbsp chia seeds
2 cups water
LEAVE ME OVERNIGHT TO STEW AWAY
in the morning add:
2 tbsp greek yogurt (I used TJs greek- really creamy stuff right thur)
massive amounts of sprinkles of cinnamon
some Flax Flakes
some crumbled Peanut Butter Bars that I made for G’s Girl Scout dance last night. Cause don’tcha just get crumbs when you take baked goods out of the pan?
This, my friends, kept me full for house and was delish.
and wouldn’tcha know I liked the PB. I’ve been a bit if-y about peanut butter as to whether I actually love it. I know I like it but with nut butter I usually fall head over heals. So that’s that. I’m already two timing on the SNB and SSB. Is there room for more? Stay tuned as I try more…
E had a doctor’s appointment this morning. Of course, he loved this because he got to skip school for the morning. In his words “haha Mom, I actually missed my spelling test!” <–quite the trickster.
Did you know they’re trying to give the HPV shot to kids of 10 now? Gosh people, a bit premature, I’d think. On that note, what do you all think of the HPV vaccine?
I have a bourgeoning love affair with exotic fruit, my friends. I’ve thought this for awhile now. When I was homeschooled, I did a really fun project where I bought a bunch of exotic fruits, tried and reviewed them all, complete with a drawing. Somehow, though, I never came across one of these suckers.
As I mentioned, I found this beauty at the grocery the other day:
The beautiful pink exterior with pineapple-like scales drew me in. That, and the fact that it was the only one amongst the kiwis.
This morning, I decided to dive in.
GO: what does it look like to you? I’m thinking strange fish with pink scales?
Here’s a bit about Dragon fruits that I got straight from the Melissa’s website. Cause to be frank, I don’t/didn’t know much about them either.
“Originally from Central America and now domestically grown in southern California and Florida, the Tropical Dragon Fruit is an exotic cactus fruit that has a delicately sweet and mildly acidic flavor, reminiscent of watermelon, cactus pear, and kiwi.<– this would explain why it was with the kiwis….All Melissa’s Dragon Fruit flower at night and emit a jasmine-like fragrance. (romantic much?)The fruit is round and its exterior ranges in color from a hot pink to red. The interior color of dragon fruit ranges from white to pink to magenta. All three types have tiny, edible black seeds (very similar to those found inside Kiwi and similar to chia!). This fruit does not grow well in winter cold or summer heat, so its availability is limited, making it a highly prized treat. (indeed!) The melon-like texture of the Dragon Fruit makes it ideal for blending in drinks (dragon monster?) as well as using in sorbets.”
A real winner. I had a lot of fun with my Dragon fruit so I thought I’d do a dragon fruit cutting tutorial since I really had no idea how to get around this thing. You would also think it would have a pit- not so!
1. Cut your D.F length wise. Unless you want to have a super hard time getting the flesh out, then go ahead, cut it in half the hamburger bun way You won’t have to saw at it, because if ripe, it will have a bit of give to the touch and will also give to your knife, again, a bit like a kiwi. This dragon looks a bit spiky, but trust me, it’s tame.
2. Place the open slices on your cutting board. Marvel for about 10 minutes at the beautiful contrast between the skin and the flesh. See Chuck? I told you it was pretty! Once you’ve gotten over your shock you may move on to step three. And yes, this step is mandatory.
3. Take a household spoon (preferably a round one… yes, I’m talking to you, you people who have awesome kitchen accessories) and run it along the inside of the fruit, so you get the flesh to come out like you might if you wanted to skin all that awful hairy stuff off of a kiwi. Or like you might take a melon out of its skin, if you’re sick of the kiwi comparisons.
4. Lift the flesh out of the skin. You don’t want to eat the skin, trust me, this is no apple. Did you see those spikes? I imagine you also do this when you eat dragon-not-fruit, but I’m a vegetarian, so I wouldn’t know.
5. Slice, and add to whatever you’re adding it to. The flavor isn’t strong. It is something like a really tame grape + a more solid watermelon? Can’t really describe it. I’d also tell you to just buy your own, but it may or may not have cost us upwards of $8!

Nature’s Path Flax Plus Cereal!
I challenged myself to eating cereal this morning. I needed to do this because as I’ve mentioned, I’m employed as a camp counselor this summer and I’m SURE they won’t have a crock pot in which I can make oats every morning.
Nope. They’ll have cereal, I guarantee you. What child do you know who likes overnight oats? Thought so. (no, your own children or other children of food bloggers don’t count!)
So up until now I’ve been afraid because:
1. I thought the serving sizes were too small so therefore

Well, let me tell you, this breakfast DID hold me over until lunch! AND it provided carbs for my brain to think this morning, even though I was not doing any hard core learning.
I paired it with Soy Milk and the sliced Dragon Fruit. I have, indeed tamed the dragon. Now if I could tame my ED dragon too, that’d be just dandy.
Cereal for breakfast = success!
After E had his appointment, we perused Borders for a bit. I also did not spend the roughly 4 gift certificates that have been burning holes in my wallet since my birthday this fall….oops
Mom and I hit up Ocean State Job Lot (“The Home of Adventure Shopping!”) after we’d dropped E back at school. I love this place, if you’ve never been and you have one near you, seriously go, they have the most random things there, but it’s just fun. Mom got some long bug catching nets for G and E to use at the lake to catch cray fish, probably, something for gardening, some egg noodles (they have really fun noodles there), some Israeli marshmallows, and some pants, and a tabouli mix. I told her we should make our own like we usually do with the (seriously) two bags of bulgur wheat we have but she wanted it NOW. This is my part of the haul:
Vanilla Almond Dream, two organic dark chocolate bars-one with almonds! (I promised to share these with mom), 1 package of figs!, a jar of pitted tart cherries, organic medium salsa, more oat bran (selling for $2.49? can’t pass that up!), Original and Cinnamon Wheat Puff things, more Wild Garden Hummus (my fav kind!), and some Almond Butter (a canadian brand? I just loved the cute jar!)
I tried the Almond Milk right away. It was sweetened, but I’d wanted to try it. Being a person who isn’t fond it sweet things, it was a bit much, but still good. Can’t wait to try the regular flavor! I also dug right into the almond butter- Oh. My. this stuff was perfect!! And seriously the ingredients were just almonds! love it!
and yes, we are getting a carpet. In flux people, in flux.
and a JJill Dress! I love this company. Just such beautiful, classic, flowey clothes. This dress is usually $99 in the store/catalogue. I got it for $8. yeah. STEAL!
When we got home, I was ready for lunch! I whipped up the tabouli for mom and I to try- it tasted pretty good, after I’d finished inhaling it and choking on it. That was quite unfortunate, indeed.
I ate it on top of a salad beast with celery, salsa and sauerkraut.
with some Dr. Krisper’s Salt and Pepper Rice Krisps on the side. Love those.
Tomorrow the fam is trecking….via car….up to Fort Ticondaroga where I’ve never been! It is supposed to be really hot and I might have to abscond to the trunk of the car with the ice packs if it gets above 80°

The last couple days….okay, so maybe it was two…saw this happen:
I saw a mouse in our kitchen so my Mom immediately told me to put everything in the microwave? Hm..okay Mom, whatever you say
When Dad picked me up last week from school, we stopped at WF on our way home (LOVE IT!) and I picked this new find up: Sunsational Non Dairy Milk made from….sunflower seeds!
I was looking for the new unsweetened Coconut Milk by So Delicious, but I found this instead. Who could resist when I love sunflower seed butter as much as I do?
It had a darker color than most milks I’ve tried
but like I’ve said before; I’m down for anything but dairy milk! The stats on this drink aren’t stellar (ie: lower in protein and calcium than others), but I had fun drinking it and it tastes good. Verdict? I think it tastes really good. Kind of like what you’d expect the milk version of SSB to taste like and thus a winner. It’s creamy as well, which is a nice.
I also found myself this Liberte yogurt.It was new so I had to try it. Well….that and the fact that it was Date and Fig flavored. Seriously guys, two of my favorite dried fruits AND yogurt? I’m IN!
I really liked this as well, but it was a bit sweet. Don’t judge based on me though; I tend to be super sensitive to sweet things and therefore not like them as much. The yogurt itself had a really nice flavor, not just plain but as if it had a bit of the flavor infused into it- a really nice touch. The fruit on the bottom was more like apple butter texture- so like figdate butter texture? It was quite sweet (as dates and figs are) but I can see eating this yogurt with toast and then spreading the fruit on the bottom on my toast with nut butter!! Next time, my friends.
Had me an awesome protein shake. I’m really feeling these lately.
This morning my family went to help sort plants that my 4th grade sister G and her class sold to help the victims of the tragedy in Japan. I didn’t get any pictures because we were moving and organizing plants from 9-11:30, but I actually had fun!! Good thing I fueled myself a delish brekkie!
GCW (Ginger Cracked Wheat)
1/4 cup cracked wheat + 2 cups water, cooked overnight in my lovely mini crockpot
1/4 tsp ginger- this even ended up being too much and overpowered the oats, sadly😦
dump sprinkle on the cinnamon
2 tbsp Sunsational Sunflower Milk
blob on the greek yogurt
2 tbsp maple syrup (I added this in a desperate attempt to balance out the ginger)
Like I said, the ginger totally overpowered the taste of the cracked wheat. I really have been getting into cracked wheat lately because I love the chewy texture it lends to my breakfast.
Of course eaten with bites of SSB and SNB. When do I NOT dip other foods in these??!!
After we got home and ate lunch, I finally got to finish my project from last night:
I made Strawberry Froyo!!
Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
1 cups greek yogurt
1/2 cup strawberry yogurt
1 cup milk (I used skim here, because I wanted to share it with my family)
2 tsp strawberry extract (or the rest of the bottle, which wasn’t that much…)
1/2 a banana (this added creamy texture)
1 tbsp arrowroot powder (for thickening!)
This all went into my blender because we still don’t have a food processor
*insert annoyance and foot stomping here!*
and then it went into our ice cream maker.
Pretty much a success, I’d say. My mom liked it!!
ps: it tastes great with SSB and SNB- I told you I ate it with everything!!
Tomorrow is my last day of being housebound!! or rather, my mom’s last day of not being able to drive/intense recovery from her surgery!! WOOHOO!! I forsee trips to the two natural food stores around, Fresh Market and the new Super Target with grocery section in my near future. And a farmers market, for sure😀😀😀

I’ve decided to do a WIAW today!! It’s late, however, because I’m not really sure how to do it. Is it supposed to be what you ate on wednesday or can it just be any full day of eats? This is what I ate today, May 18th, 2011, but perhaps next time I’ll pick another day of the week so I can actually get it up in a timely fashion….

I loved this so much, that I had to make another one as a morning snack.
I made this one chocolate by adding unsweetened cocoa powder to a vanilla protein powder + silk.
These were tasty, but I still miss the spinach element. The spinach I had turned all mushy on me😦
Lunch was OOIAJ (overnight oats in a jar!) …or rather, two jars😉

Midafternoon, I took a break from cleaning/organizing my room to catch up on some of your WIAW posts and downed my other OOIAJ, cold from the fridge.
I like them both warm and cold, it turns out.
I made a compromise because of the weather and walked home only from my doctor’s appointment. I read like Freya while I walked
I couldn’t even decide what I wanted for dinner when I got home. Half of me wanted a quesadilla….
and half of me wanted chili. I settled for both!
I steamed some fresh green beans and accompanied the meal with mustard dippage and salsa. Two of my favorite condiments, of course.
I loved this meal, let me tell you.
and of course, I had a salad with carrots and balsamic on the side. as per usual, I love my salads!
I had a couple spoonfuls of banana vanilla tofu pudding and yogurt with SSB and SNB for dessert. You know how I do.
All in all, a perfect delish day.
SIDENOTE: Not moments after I posted yesterday’s post, detailing how much I loved my Pufferfish Mug, I heard a huge crash from the kitchen. Yes, it was indeed my younger sister breaking my mug.

Yes, my friends, I have been baking up a storm here on the home front
It is p.o.u.r.i.n.g. outside, and with my mom’s post-surgery bed/house rest mandate, I’m house-bound for about a week😦
No fear though, I’m all set with plans to keep me busy! I’m going to be doing some cooking, of course, as well as taking lots of walks (if the rain lets up a bit…), drinking lots of tea (duh), dancing around, cleaning my room, hand washing all my knit-wear, taking some bike rides (again, rain conditional) and walking to my doctors appointment on wednesday!! I’m really psyched for this last one, because it is a super long walk and I’ve never actually done something like this before. Where I live isn’t really near to anything so walking a half marathon distance to an appointment is a biggie!! Gonna fuel up right.
Today I woke up and “slept” until my sibs got on the bus to avoid being in our *tiny* kitchen while they were scrambling to get ready for school. Mom called “thank you for waiting!” after they’d gone, and up I got. Shower, dressed while dancing (a MUST DO!) and hopped downstairs to make myself the brekkie I’d planned out the night before:
Sweet Potato Protein Cake
-1/2 sweet potato
-1 tbsp wheat bran or flour (I use wheat bran)
-1 egg white or egg substitute (I am going to try to veganize this, I imagine you could use Ener-G egg replacer? I’ll try this)
-1 tsp baking powder
-1 tsp nutmeg
-1 tsp cinnamon
-1 tbsp soy milk
-1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Pop into a bowl
it was quite large!
and microwave for 3 minutes, or until done. Will be kinda spongy?
Makes ONE LARGE cakey for one hungry Hannah

I may have mentioned about my friend who is teaching in Korea. We met last summer while we were both studying on a program at Oxford University and I really miss him. I recently asked him in a oh so secret way what his favorite cookies were. He replied by sending a blog recipe (!) of some chocolate oatmeal freezer cookies. My mom said non-cooked cookies don’t send well (and neither do cookies, for that matter) so I decided to make him chocolate bar cookies, modeled after the recipe he sent me.
**these are not vegan because I made them for this friend and I wanted to make sure they were guaranteed to come out perfect. also I don’t eat vegan 100% of the time, although I often do
-3 cups oats
-1/2-1 cup flour- depending upon how much your oats decide to stick together for you
-1/2 cup sugar
-4 tbsp cocoa powder
-1 cup butter
-2 tsp cinnamon
-1 tsp baking soda
-1 cup chocolate chips
-dash of salt
Preheat oven to 350°
Mix the butter and sugar together in a fancy mixer thing a la above!
Add the egg and vanilla, mix well
Combine dry ingredients and mix. Add to the wet and whip around until combined.
Add in chocolate chips and spread into a pan (medium sized, this doesn’t fit in an 8×8″)
Bake for 60 minutes, until it passes the knife test.
I think they came out quite well.
It is coming down out there. Gosh, if we could harvest -and clean- all the water that is pouring into my backyard right now, I bet we could solve the world shortage problem. Either that, or this is the reason we have that problem. I’d be happy to share!!
